Cannery Cuisine!

Finally! A place for those who find pioneer food a little hard to swallow! Recipes so good your family won't know you've fed them whatever is in the cans under the basement stairs! Cracked wheat crackers need not apply...

I WANT CANDY!

These marshmallows are great!

3 packets unflavored gelatine

2 cups sugar
1 cup boiling water
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
Powdered sugar
In saucepan, combine first 3 ingredients. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Add vanilla, stir and set aside to cool for 5 minutes. Then whip using a hand mixer for 8-10 minutes. Pour into buttered 9x13pan and refrigerate until firm, then cut with kitchen shears and roll in powdered sugar to prevent sticking or shake them in a bag filled with powdered sugar for a finer coating.

These melt like regular marshmallows and dont' stick to braces! Try adding cocoa powder or flavorings!

If you have recipe that is just heavenly- post it here!

Ok- I know this isn't a "cannery" item, but alot of people have cake mixes, soda and pie filling in their storage. Thanks to Vaughn in Mom's ward!

Black Cherry Soda Cake

2 cans cherry pie filling
1 chocolate cake mix (dry)
12 oz. bottle of black cherry soda

Preheat oven to 350. Spread cherry pie filling in bottom of 9x13 pan. Sprinkle dry cake mix evenly over cherry pie filling. Evenly pour black cherry soda over cake mix. Bake for 40-45 minutes. Can also mix cake mix with soda before putting on top of pie filling, but it will need to bake longer. This is pretty messy, but gooey and yummy when it's warm!
